SOME PERSONAL THOUGHTS About THE EVENT...
"When my father passed away, my then 4 year old daughter, drew the picture displayed above on one of my bedroom walls. Her drawing features her granddad in bed [bed bound after a series of strokes] and a cemetery. It was her way of talking about what had happened. You see, she participated with me to the cultural traditions and rituals of mourning and remembrance. I don't think that it was not fear of death but her need to talk about her experience and understand more the permanency of not seeing her granddad again. So, I decided to talk to her about his life and why I am sad. She asked questions, showed interest and now years and some more deaths later she feels empowered to talk about her feelings around grief and loss."
Inspired by celebrations around the Mexican Day of the Dead, Victoriana exhibitions, research on death literacy we feel that current unsettling times call for talking about loss and grief and equipping young people deal with emotions and the world around them.
